  • The best way to protect your eyes when observing a solar eclipse, or looking at the sun any other day, is to use solar eclipse glasses. These glasses are made with a special lens material that block all the potentially harmful infrared and ultraviolet radiation of the sun, and most of the bright sunlight so you can comfortably look directly at the sun. Please be aware eclipse glasses are not a toy! Keep them safe in an envelope so the lenses are not scratched, torn or punctured. Make sure they are not damaged, the lens material has not come loose from the cardboard frame, and when you glance through them the only lights you can see are the sun, the reflection of the sun, or a very bright LED bulb like your smart phone flashlight. If you see objects or regular house lights through the lens, those glasses are not safe. Unfortunately unsafe glasses make their way into the marketplace. ISO 12312-2 Compliant/CE Certified Solar Eclipse Glasses available for purchase at City Hall. eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety

  • The last total eclipse crossing Arkansas was in 1918 and the next will be in 2045!
