SEVIER COUNTY COURTHOUSE

TRIBUTE TO “THE FIVE KING BROTHERS”

Sons of Louis F. and Eunice J. King of Lockesburg Who served their country during World War II at the same time. (Their mother wore the Gold Star, The Silver Star and the Purple Heart on her lapel.)

Norman R. King, an Army instructor, stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. He enlisted in the US Army on December 8, 1941, received his basic Training at Camp Roberts. Later was stationed at Ft. Lawton, WA, then Anchorage, Alaska. He saw overseas action and Attu and Kiska. He gave The supreme sacrifice, his life, on March 28, 1945, while serving with Patton’s Third Army in Germany.

Elmo Watson King, Seaman First Class, enlisted in the Navy at Houston, TX, on January 13, 1942, and received his “boot” training at San Diego. He saw action in Tarawa, the Gilbert Islands and Saipan as a turret gunner.

Merlyn J. King, Sergeant in the US Army, was honorably discharged from The Army after 17 months in the service. He enlisted on May 6, 1942, and received his basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. He was injured on Army Maneuvers in Louisiana, while serving as a Military Policeman.

Berten Braley King, Private First Class, enlisted in the Army February 26, 1943,  and received training at Camp Wallace, TX and Camp Barkeley, TX, where he Took an eight week’s course in cooking. Later, he was assigned to the Medical Corps and later served as General Hospital Medic in Marbourgh, Germany.

Louis Ferd King, Jr. Petty Officer Second Class in the US Navy, enlisted on September 21, 1943, and completed his “boot” training at San Diego, CA. Later, he was sent to Chicago, IL, where he was stationed for three months. He received further training at Norfolk, VA, Washington D.C. and Mares Island, CA, before being assigned to overseas duty.

Pictured is a Hind foot bone cast found by Joe B. Friday in 1972. They are the only Dinosaur bones to be found in the State of Arkansas.
