The Lockesburg Water Tower

The Lockesburg Waterworks is located at the intersection of Hickory and Azalea St. in Lockesburg, Sevier County, Arkansas. The facility, which was built in 1936 with financial assistance from the Public Works Administration, includes a water tower and two water sheds. A chain link fence protects the facility on all four sides.

The Water Tower was a part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) to ease the effects of businesses closing in the 1930’s. The town’s leaders decided to seek funding for a new, modern waterworks to serve its people, and the federal agency awarded a $12,947 grant and a $16,000 loan for the project, which had an anticipated cost of $28,779.
